Things to do in Regina this Canada Day
February 15, 2017
With friendly local, beautiful prairies, and of course a great love for hockey, Regina embodies everything the world loves about Canada. It seems like we were just celebrating Canada 150, but time flies and here we are, already looking forward to
celebrating Canada Day this July 1
There are always so many activities going on in town for Canada Day, but Wascana Park in central Regina is where the official celebration takes place. Here is our breakdown of events and activities to check out with friends and family:
Start off your celebration right! Exercise, enjoy the summer air, and have fun with family and friends at this year’s
Regina Canada Day Fun Run & Walk
. There are a 3K course and a 5K course to choose from and everybody is welcome, including all ages and abilities. Registration is $30 for the first 250 people who sign up and $35 after that, so be sure to book soon if you want to participate! The “races” begin at 8:30 am and are not timed, but you can pick up a race clock at the start line if you’d like to challenge yourself. Your registration fee includes a t-shirt and a free post-race pancake breakfast. What a perfect way to kick-start your Canada Day!
There will be lots of activities and performances throughout the day. Catch some live music at the Main Stage or watch the “Western Canada’s Strongest Man” competition, where 12 strength athletes from Western Canada compete for the title by lifting, pulling, and pushing awe-striking weights. You can also watch or participate in the Plywood Cup, an annual activity where teams of four must built a boat or vessel using limited materials in a short amount of time and then send one team member to race across Wascana Lake in their contraption. There’s also a dedicated Kids’ Area with performers, activities, games, and face painters to make the day feel special for little ones!
When the day is winding down, cap off your Canada Day with a fireworks show beginning at dusk (around 10:30 pm or later). Try to snag a viewing spot anywhere along the lake shore at Wascana Park for the best view of the fireworks!
HomeSuites Regina is less than a 15 minute drive away from Wascana Lake
, the perfect place to stay if you want to be close to the fun but also be able to take a much-needed break from the crowds and the noise after a long and exciting Canada Day!
