Nothing says elegance quite like sitting down for a cup of tea in a beautiful heritage building. From March to November, the Government House Historical Society (GHHS) offers the opportunity to do just that with their Victorian Tea weekends.

If you’ve never been to high tea before then you’re in for a treat! The Victorian Tea events are a great opportunity to experience high tea in the Ballroom of the historic Government House. Open to the public since 1981, the Government House is a museum and event space that has been carefully restored to evoke the architectural style of the turn of the twentieth century. The house was originally known as the Saskatchewan House and served as the residence for the Lieutenant-Governor of the North-West Territories.

The GHHS works hard to maintain the historical atmosphere of the building and it goes to show. One step inside the building and you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to the setting of a Jane Austen novel. The Victorian era décor provides a backdrop for servers outfitted in clothes from the same time period. Although high tea is definitely the standout event at the Government House, members of the public can visit the house at any time for free.

At high tea, endless pots of hot tea come with sandwiches, freshly baked scones and a dessert. A children’s menu is also available for young tea enthusiasts!

The first high tea will happen on the weekend of March 2nd and 3rd. Tickets go fast so book early!
